Owen Kettle Hat
Owen Kettle Hat – Classic Helmet of the Infantry
The kettle hat is one of the most popular helmets of the Middle Ages and likely originated in Byzantium around the 11th century. It quickly spread throughout Europe due to its simple construction and effective protection against overhead blows, especially from mounted opponents.
The Owen kettle hat features a wide brim that not only shields against attacks but also provides protection from sun and rain. Its open design leaves the face and neck uncovered, allowing the wearer to breathe, hear, and see clearly – all while keeping the head protected.
Three raised ribs on the helmet bowl further reinforce the steel structure. The helmet includes a foam-padded liner and a leather chin strap for a secure and comfortable fit.
For added comfort and to prevent chafing, we recommend wearing a padded coif underneath.
